Greening the Man

In 2007, we will calculate the amount of climate changing gases that are
released into the air by the construction and the burning of the Man and its
pedestal. This is called a carbon footprint. Then we'll sponsor projects in
the outside world that will efface this imprint. Such actions might include
the planting of trees or the development of non-polluting energy resources.
Having played with fire, we'll take care to cleanse its atmospheric
playground.

We are taking some radical measures to ensure that Black Rock City will be
the largest "Green" community in the world. These steps will all be covered
soon in more detail but this is the outline.

1. A Vehicle free Playa.
No gas powered vehicles will be parked within the perimeter of Black Rock
City. We will have an adjacent parking area approximately a quarter of a
mile away. Cars and trucks will be able to unload at camp but then must
park in the lot. Those choosing to come in RVs will have a separate RV lot
to park in. We will also be operating a number of bio-diesel fueled buses to
bring you and your equipment from the parking area to your camps. Art Cars
will not be affected by this.

2. People are the Power.
Another step we are taking is a power grid for all of Burningman. We will
not be allowing generators this year unless they run on bio-diesel or a
solar source. We will be providing a solar power grid for Burningman
assisted by a "power plant" run by the power of Burningman attendees. We
will have bicycles and "hamster wheels" that YOU will use to power all of
Burningman. We are still working out how access to the grid will be
provided and details will be given soon.

3. "Burning Potties"
We have reached a deal with Incinolet incinolet.com/ to use their new
waste system that uses a powerful heater and blower to reduce your human
waste into ash. We will provide participants with plenty of ash bags.

By starting with these simple steps we will continue to ensure that
Burningman is a proving ground for a better society.

It was posted then...but I wasn't on there that day and thought that the day that I posted it was the 1st. It was a weird weekend I guess.

*I* knew it wasn't possible....just the car parking thing alone....though I was kinda hoping with the incinolet.....which is a real product...but it's not gonna be out on the playa. I'm big on the incinolet and self-composting toliets. They're just too damned cool....to a gal like me that is.

The part that was missing from your post was the sig line. A dead giveaway: Poisson d'Avril.

Anyway, Clearly the first is difficult, and doesn't do a damn thing to green the burn. The second would be interesting to see. Not sure how an incinolet is green either.

Yeah...the first was NOT much of a greening aspect (and a give away for myself). The second would be AWESOME! I've been saying that they needed to do this since my first year out.....okay...maybe that off...but still....for a long time. As for the greenness of incinolet.....it incinerates your bodily wastes so there's no need for nasty chemicals or for JOtS to have to spend time/money/gas on emptying them....carting the waste of 35K+ off to a waste water plant, which adds more chemicals not only to the waste to de-horrify it, but which also end up in our waterways...which end up in our bodies. YUM! With incinolet ash you have clean ash that can be put on a garden (for those of you/us that would NOT like the idea of eating your waste...put it on the begonias/tulips/yuca/etc.). So that's they greenness of an incinolet.

As for the Poisson d'Avril.....I didn't see it...and if I did I prolly wondered why it was mentioning me........*shrug* Just one of the probs with being named after a month. And no....my birthday is NOT in April....it's in January. (common question)

My grandma was born in April though.
