Mardi Gras Burner Ball -a Benefit Party For the Common Ground Collective in New Orleans.
Saturday February 24th at the Acorn Theater in Three Oaks MI.
This multi room costume/dance party will feature DJ's, the Environmental Encroachment Marching Band, Rhythm Works African drumming ensemble, a Mardi Gras costume contest, and a special screening of the short documentary "Solidarity, not Charity", a film that chronicles Common Ground Collective's heroic ongoing relief and rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. This event is an intentional gathering that will celebrate the Soul of New Orleans and will bring together conscious party people from across the midwest in the spirit of Love, Community, and Radical Self Expression.

The Acorn theater is a beautiful venue located in SW Michigan near I-94/US12 in the funky little town of Three Oaks. It is about an hour and ten minutes from Chicago. This is a fully legal/licensed venue and due to Michigan Liquor laws outside alcohol cannot be brought in. There will however be a bar inside serving until 2am. Common Ground's mission is to provide short term relief for victims of hurricane disasters in the Gulf Coast region, and long term support in rebuilding the communities affected in the New Orleans area. Common Ground is a community-initiated volunteer organization offering assistance, mutual aid and support. The work gives hope to communities by working with them, providing for their immediate needs and emphasizes people working together to rebuild their lives in sustainable ways.

So here is an updated invite. Sorry for the hassles but it probably is best in the long run as it will be less confusing for those who have never been to the Acorn.

The Acorn theater is located on the short unmarked street just behind the Three Oaks post office at 201 N Elm St. Follow mapquest directions to 201 N Elm, Three Oaks, MI 49128 then drive down the driveway next to the post office and follow that road to the building with a large metal acorn on the side.
